Ubisoft has released a new set of screenshots for its upcoming open-world adventure set in Ancient Egypt, Assassin’s Creed: Origins
Ubisoft has released a new set of screenshots for its long-awaited open-world adventure, Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The new screens shown by the French gaming giant are a digital testament to the efforts made by Ashraf Ismail, and the Ubisoft Montreal team, in shaping a coherent, colorful game universe. By watching screenshots, in fact, we can appreciate some vibrant combat scenes, variety of setting, and care in creating animated polygonal models of secondary characters, enemies, and PNGs that will help us continue in the singleplayer campaign.
According to E3 2017 and Gamescom details shared by Ubisoft Montreal developers, the next Ubi kolossal will maintain the action-adventure stealth mechanics from latest episodes, with a third-person perspective and a deep open-world experience. The game, however, will feature several changes and innovations in gameplay from previous chapters like Syndicate, Unity and Black Flag like smoother combat system, the “eagle spotting” mechanic and mytologic-centric narrative in the Ptolemaic Egypt era.
Not less important are even the statements made by creative director Jean Guesdon at the end of June:
“When we started to dig into it, to learn about it, to study, reading up and meeting Egyptologists, we realised quite soon it’s way more than deserts and pyramids, Still today in the 21st century this is a place in time, in the world, that triggers a lot of fantasies. It’s a lost world, a forgotten world because very few things remain today.
The beauty of that is it allowed our artists to recreate it. It’s more a recreation… we have no maps, no plans, as to how it was. We have a good idea. And so really we’ve put our efforts into recreating mostly the atmosphere… you have the Mediterranean sea, you have the Nile river, you have mountains, deserts… the beauty of this world is that it’s already rich with almost 3000 years of history. Ptolemaic Egypt recreated in Assassin’s Creed Origins will be an extremely rich lost world to explore.”
“Where do you find the verticality? In Egypt, what we did was that all rock formations, for example, are climbable now. So it’s not only limited to cities, or locations. We have big cities, villages, camps and now all these mountains & rocks that you can climb. You don’t have to pay attention to your level of hydration during your open-world activities, however. You don’t need to drink, but you will experience a bit of hallucination because of the heat. And so we have what we call this desert overheat system that will make things appear, so it’s always interesting to go there.”
Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available October, 27 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Players, as always, complete quests (linear scenarios with set objectives) to progress through the story and secondary missions. Outside of quests players can freely roam the open world on foot, horseback, camel-back or boat. Unlike previous games in the series there will not be many tall structures to climb to unlock areas of the map, and a new reaction-based combat system will be featured. Assassin’s Creed Origins will also feature the return of naval combat and tomb raiding.
